205: Creative Arts Therapies
This course is designed to assist health care professionals in understanding how, when and what types of creative arts therapies might be used in conjunction with conventional therapies to enhance pediatric care throughout the range of pediatric ages and developmental stages. Creative Arts therapies have robust supporting research but are not emphasized in medical education, especially in the pediatric population
This course will help to close this knowledge gap and assist health care professionals in understanding how, when and what types of creative arts therapy approaches and interventions might be used in conjunction with conventional therapies to enhance pediatric care. This is important because an accruing number of effective, safe, non-pharmaceutical creative arts-based therapies are available for children yet not widely known or taught to clinicians. Examples include music therapy and art therapy.
